Tom has excellent communication skills, is warm, relational, non-judgmental and direct.
He works to hear the issues for which the client is seeking help. He focuses on the
“here and now” issues the client brings and both the client and Tom explore what has
brought the client to counseling—“what you can do and/or what you can be. He
focuses on a person’s/couples’ strengths rather than weaknesses." He does not
hesitate to be direct. Tom is sensitive to diversity—particularly in faith and spiritual
beliefs, race, sexuality, life history choices and family of origin experiences.

Melissa L. Lester, M.S. - LPC
Melissa began her mental health career working with adults managing addiction issues
and acute psychosis in a crisis stabilization unit in northeast Georgia. She later
provided case management to at-risk families for the Department of Family and
Children Services. It was there that Melissa decided she wanted to learn more about
supporting the growth and development of individuals and families. This prompted her
to obtain a Master’s of Science in Clinical Counseling Psychology at Brenau University.
Melissa continued her work with youth and adults providing individual, family and group
counseling at White County Mental Health and Hall County Mental Health for Avita
Community Partners. Before joining the Wellspring Counseling team, she served as the
designated mental health authority for a regional youth detention center and managed
mental health services for juveniles detained at the facility.
Melissa approaches therapy as an opportunity to develop healthy relationships based
on honesty and trust where clients can grow and explore new opportunities without fear
of judgment. She draws on her background in biology and research to understand the
role of the mind and body in the healing process. Melissa considers it her privilege to
work with individuals/families from diverse backgrounds (i.e. ethnicity, gender, sexuality,
